All set to go for the International Bowen Conference in Sörbyn
Bowenforum Sweden is proud to announce that the decision has been made by the Bowen Center in Washington. The first International Bowen Conference set in Europe is to take place in Swedish Lapland at the Sörbyn Lodge close to the city of Boden.
- We are proud to be given this confidence. It has of course been preceded by solid preparations and many contacts, reports the project leader Kerstin Sofia Andersson.
This is the third International Bowen Conference and the theme is "Managing Relations in a Changing World - Bowen Theory in Organizations, Families and Communities". It will take place June 15-17 2020. The previous International Conferences has been in Philadelphia and Hong Kong.
The five main speakers are assigned, among them Dr. Michael Kerr, professor emeritus and author of several books. Dr. Kerr is a former Director of the Bowen Center in Georgetown. We are also happy to present Dr. Anne McKnight, the present Director of the Center.
- Our main speakers are some of the most prominent persons working with Bowen Theory in practice, application and the ongoing development. In addition to the five main speakers another ten speakers will be invited to present their work. This is still a work in progress Kerstin Sofia Andersson says.
An important goal of ours is to "bring together leaders and students as well as newcomers to Bowen Theory from all over the world and give opportunities to share their learning on the theory and practice in families, organizations, and communities."
- It contributes to a valuable dialogue in a variety of social contexts across geographical, socio-economic, cultural, and political boundaries, says Peggy Chan, Project Leader for Hong Kong May 2018.

The Bowen Theory is developed by Dr. Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist and a professor in psychiatry at Georgetown University. The Systems Theory is developed through practical work with clients during several decades. Dr. Bowen analyzed families, congregations, organizations and societies as emotional units. Instead of the individual perspective, focus was set on how relations are built and changed depending on context and various levels of anxiety. Dr. Bowen begun his research during the 1940’s at the Menninger Clinic, Later he continued at the Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA, where he also founded the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family.
